I don't really know much about editing the wikipedia, so I'm sorry if I did anything that was against the way things are normally done. Please discuss the issue here again before removing the image. Can you think of an alternative image to start the article off with? Remember, wikipedia is not censored and this is an article on whaling, not on whales. I think that picture of historical whaling is very informative and improves the article. I personally felt that such an image was too inappropriately shocking to be put at the very start of the article.
